Abstract:
Strategic management is the process by which organizations try to determine
what needs to be done to achieve corporate objectives and more importantly how these objectives are to be met. Ideally, it is a process by which senior management examines the organization and the environment in which it operates and attempts to establish an appropriate and optimal fit between the two to ensure the organization’s success. This article touches on the role of strategic management in organizational development in Cavendish University Uganda with particular emphasis on components of strategic
management, benefits of good strategic management and strategic process. The paper adopts descriptive research method and employs secondary method of data collection. The paper reveals that many organizations including CUU do analyze the environment in which they operate. It was however so observed that some organizations do partially work towards achieving their corporate mission and its objectives. The paper recommends among others the need for every organization to carryout environmental
analysis. It was also recommended that every organization should review their way of operation every year.
