Abstract:
This study is an assessment of the managerial processes, reward management and work environment to determine the effect on job performance of public security service sector. The objectives of the study were to assess the effect of managerial processes on job performance of the public security service sector in Kanifing Municipality, to examine the effect of managerial processes, reward management on job performance in the public security service sector in Kanifing Municipality, to examine the effect of work environment, reward management on job performance in public security service sector in Kanifing Municipality and to investigate the effect of work environment on job performance in public security service sector in Kanifing Municipality. The research employed descriptive survey research design to obtain data; random sampling technique was exploited to draw a sample of 500 respondents from 217 sample size of police officers in the Kanifing Municipal Council from nine (9) Police Stations. After data collection, descriptive statistics and regression analysis were conducted to determine the mean, standard deviation and effect of the independent variables on dependent variable. The study was guided by process based-approaches to management concept, Herzberg's Two-Factor theory and expectancy theory to explain the impact of managerial processes, reward management, work environment on job performance.
The findings of the study revealed that the effect of managerial processes were found to be negative but significant on job performance and found that managerial processes and reward management combined have negative and positive effects to influence job performance, while work environment have negative effect and insignificant to influence job performance. A further investigation or critical searches as to why these factors seem to be insignificant maybe carried out to explain the low job performance. The study recommends that senior security managers need to gain a deeper understanding of their own local areas of duty as well as a broader comprehension and awareness of the whole managerial system, develop strategies or policies that link managerial processes to reward management strategies for consideration of rewards, create a favorable work environment that promotes fair, equitable and timely consistent rewarding system and foster a better work environment in order to enhance security officers’ performance as security officer’s job performance has significant link with work environment
